Irish radio settings
The EU/UK Narrow preset used across Mayo Mesh, and the legal limits for the 869 MHz sub-band.
The Mayo Mesh preset
Every node on the network must use the same radio settings, or it won’t hear anyone. Mayo Mesh uses the EU/UK Narrow preset:
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Frequency | 869.618 MHz |
| Bandwidth | 62.5 kHz |
| Spreading factor | SF8 |
| Coding rate | CR8 |
From a repeater’s command line, that’s:
set radio 869.618,62.5,8,8
In the companion app or the MeshCore Configurator, pick EU/UK Narrow from the preset list and all four values are set for you.
Legal limits
MeshCore radios in Ireland operate as licence-exempt short range devices. The preset sits inside the 869.4–869.65 MHz sub-band, where the harmonised European limits are:
- Power: 500 mW ERP (effective radiated power)
- Duty cycle: under 10% — no more than 6 minutes of transmitting in any hour
ERP counts your antenna gain as well as your radio’s output. A high-gain antenna on a powerful radio can push you over the limit even when the radio setting looks modest — work out the total before you go up a mast.
