Setting txdelay on a repeater
How long a repeater waits before re-sending, and the value to use for your site.
txdelay controls how long a repeater waits before re-transmitting a packet it has heard. Well-placed repeaters should jump in quickly; repeaters in poor positions should hold back, so the best-placed site relays first and the rest don’t pile in on top of it.
Recommended values
| Site | txdelay |
|---|---|
| Directional link | 0.25 |
| Mountaintop | 0.3 |
| Above the roofline | 0.6 |
| Default / attic | 1.4 |
| Mobile | 2.0 |
These tiers come from loraproject.org. If you’re not sure which tier your site belongs in, start one tier slower — a repeater that waits too long costs a little latency, while one that’s too eager causes collisions for everyone.
